Discontentment in the Face of Opulence

Recently my friend confided in me that his spouse was very melancholy and voicing her discontent about their lives despite having, what my buddy perceived, as a really good ‘kush’ existence. It is not the first time I’ve encountered this in my life or in the confessions of others. Some of us are very fortunate but despite this good luck we still feel unsettled or unhappy. There can also be feelings of guilt associated with having a lot, opulence by any historical measure (roof, heat, indoor plumbing, abundance of food) and still feeling downtrodden.
